The Great Achievers Initiative for Youth and Community Development (GAIYD) held its 2025 annual street sensitization in Abuja, focusing on improving the mental health of boys under the theme “Common Mental Health Issues in Boys.” The event included free health screenings (blood pressure, hepatitis) and dental checkups.
GAIYD’s founder, Dr. Hillary Akpua, emphasized the neglect of boys’ emotional struggles due to societal expectations like “man up,” warning of long-term consequences. He stressed the need for mentorship and safe spaces for boys.
The NGO also runs programs like drug abuse awareness and One Boy, One Skill. Partners like IGmart Med-Laboratory and Zoom 360 Dental Care supported the event, offering free services.
