
What began as a football competition among schools soon became a celebration of discipline, teamwork, resilience, and the spirit of healthy competition.
Organized by GAIYD as part of activities marking the International Day of the Boychild 2026, the GAIYD Sports Competition brought together eight schools from across the community in a tournament designed to engage young boys positively while promoting the values of integrity, leadership, and sportsmanship.


From April 23 to May 16, students competed passionately, representing their schools with pride and determination. Alongside the football tournament, participants also took part in racing events, creating an atmosphere of excitement throughout the competition.

The preliminary matches were hosted at Nyanya Gbagyi, where eight schools battled through the group stages in pursuit of a place in the knockout rounds. Participating schools included Nyanya Gbagyi, Gods Grace International Academy, Winning Ways Academy, Bri Mike Montessori Academy, Mon Dieu Montessori Academy, GSS Bakin Ado, GSS Karu East, and Bill Clinton College.
From the opening fixtures, it was clear that the competition would be fiercely contested. Every match showcased the talent, discipline, and determination of the young athletes, with schools demonstrating remarkable commitment both on and off the pitch.
As the group stages progressed, teams fought hard for every point, knowing that a place in the semi-finals was at stake. The intensity only increased as the competition entered the knockout phase.

The semi-final matches produced thrilling encounters as Winning Ways Academy faced Bill Clinton College, while GSS Bakin Ado took on Nyanya Gbagyi. The victories secured by Winning Ways Academy and GSS Bakin Ado set the stage for a highly anticipated final, while Bill Clinton College and Nyanya Gbagyi contested the third-place playoff.
In the third-place match, Nyanya Gbagyi delivered a strong performance to secure third position and end their tournament campaign on a positive note.
The grand finale took place on May 16, 2026, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, bringing together players, supporters, parents, teachers, and community members for a memorable conclusion to weeks of competition.



The final between Winning Ways Academy and GSS Bakin Ado lived up to expectations.
Both teams had enjoyed outstanding tournament runs and remained unbeaten throughout the competition. Their performances reflected the quality, preparation, and determination that had defined the tournament from the very beginning.
For the duration of the match, neither side was willing to give an inch. Every attack was matched by disciplined defending, and every opportunity was fiercely contested. The tension inside the stadium grew with every passing minute as spectators watched two deserving finalists battle for the championship.
With neither team able to find the decisive goal, the contest was ultimately settled through a penalty shootout.


In a dramatic conclusion, GSS Bakin Ado missed a crucial penalty, handing Winning Ways Academy the advantage they needed to secure victory and lift the GAIYD Sports Competition trophy.

The final result crowned Winning Ways Academy as champions, while GSS Bakin Ado finished as worthy runners-up after an exceptional tournament campaign. Despite the outcome, both teams left the competition unbeaten in open play, a testament to the quality and competitiveness displayed throughout the tournament.


Beyond the trophies and medals, the competition achieved something even more important. It provided a platform for young people to develop confidence, teamwork, discipline, leadership, and mutual respect—values that extend far beyond the football field.
The GAIYD Sports Competition also reflected the message shared during the International Day of the Boychild celebration: that boys thrive when they are given opportunities to grow, connect, and channel their energy into positive pursuits.
From the first whistle in April to the dramatic penalty shootout in May, the competition created lasting memories for players, schools, and supporters alike. It was a powerful demonstration of how sports can unite communities, build character, and inspire the next generation.
